The average electric bill, which includes fees, taxes and taxes credits, was $5,904 for the year ended Sept. 30, according to the most recent data from the Energy Information Administration.
That is up $2,735 from the previous year.
Electric bills in the United States rose 2.4 percent in the 12 months ended June 30, the EIA reported.
That’s the biggest increase since July, according the agency.
Electricity bills were up more than 4 percent in Canada and up about 2.7 percent in Japan.
The EIA estimates the average electric price will be $3,634 this year, up $1,737 from last year.
It was up more $1.1 million in Canada.
